Autobiography: Brian Kokoruwe

WHEN MOTHER CRIED

Brian Kokoruwe’s autobiography is a fantastic account of his early life. Under the watchful eye of the cabin crew, he was put on a plane from London to Lagos in Nigeria. Brian’s grandparents struggled through the jungle with him as they fled to safety in war-torn Nigeria. As an impressionable young boy, he came face to face with death, when he witnessed the regular executions of the criminals on the other side of the fence. Immediately after the war, Brian saw the slow death of his grandmother following the amputation of an infected foot without any form of anaesthetic. These and other life-changing experiences impacted heavily on his childhood before his parents eventually returned to Nigeria.
